Senior Software Engineer – Python / React / Data

Join Our Team as a Senior Software Engineer!

Are you a senior engineer who enjoys taking a product from an early concept to a robust, production-ready application? Are you comfortable moving across backend, frontend, data, and deployment rather than stopping at the edge of your preferred stack?

Port

BlueSky is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join a small team building an internal analytical platform for a major multinational enterprise.

The product will bring together data processing, interactive workflows, visualisation, and AI-assisted analysis in a modern web application. An early proof of concept exists, but the production solution will be rebuilt from the ground up—giving you the opportunity to influence architecture, engineering practices, and product decisions from the beginning.

We welcome three kinds of profiles: full-stack engineers, backend-leaning engineers, and frontend-leaning engineers. You do not need to be equally strong everywhere, but you should be comfortable working across the full application and taking features all the way to deployment.

Role and ResponsibilitiesAs a Senior Software Engineer, you will:

Build end-to-end product features: Design, implement, test, and deploy functionality across a Python/FastAPI backend and React frontend.

Shape the architecture: Help turn an early-stage concept into a maintainable, production-grade application with clear technical boundaries and sensible engineering practices.

Work hands-on with data: Process, transform, validate, and analyse structured data from formats such as CSV, JSON, Excel, and databases.

Build robust APIs: Design clean application interfaces and data models using Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, and related technologies.

Develop modern user experiences: Build usable, responsive interfaces in React and work closely with the rest of the team on how analytical results are presented.

Own your work through deployment: Containerise applications, work comfortably with Docker and Docker Compose, and understand how services move through CI/CD into a cloud environment.

Contribute to engineering quality: Participate actively in pull requests, automated testing, CI/CD, security scanning, code reviews, and continuous improvement of the development workflow.

Use AI-assisted development effectively: Work confidently with modern agentic coding environments such as Cursor, Claude Code, or equivalent tools while maintaining strong engineering judgement and code quality.

Collaborate in an agile team: Take part in sprint planning, reviews, design discussions, feedback sessions, and regular reprioritisation as the product evolves.

Communicate clearly: Raise risks and ideas early, work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and help the team make pragmatic decisions.

About You

You are an experienced software engineer with:

Strong professional experience in Python and building web applications or APIs with FastAPI or comparable frameworks.

Professional experience with React and modern frontend development.

Particular strength in either backend, frontend, or full-stack engineering, combined with the ability and willingness to work across the entire stack.

Strong knowledge of relational databases, ideally PostgreSQL, including schema design, querying, and data modelling.

Practical experience with Docker and Docker Compose.

Good understanding of cloud architecture and deployment concepts, with strong experience in at least one major cloud provider. AWS is preferred.

Practical knowledge of modern development workflows including Git, pull requests, CI/CD pipelines, build artefacts, Docker images, automated testing, and security/secret scanning.

Strong data-handling skills using tools such as pandas, Polars, SQL, Jupyter, or equivalent technologies.

Experience using modern AI-assisted / agentic development tools productively rather than simply generating isolated code snippets.

A pragmatic engineering mindset: you know when something needs to be built for long-term maintainability and when an iterative solution is the right trade-off.

The ability to work productively when requirements are still evolving.

Excellent communication skills and professional fluency in English.

EU residency and permission to work in the EU.

Nice to Have

  • What We Offer
  • You’ll work on a technically challenging enterprise product alongside experienced engineers, with significant ownership from the beginning.

Port

BlueSky offers a remote-first working culture, flexible working arrangements, experienced colleagues, challenging international projects, and the opportunity to work with modern engineering and AI tooling.

The project is fast-moving and highly iterative, so it is particularly suited to engineers who enjoy ownership, autonomy, changing requirements, and shipping useful software quickly without compromising engineering fundamentals.

Expected start: October / early November 2026 preferred.
