VSC Fire & Security is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Controller.

What You Need

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
• Active CPA license.
• Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience including public accounting, preferably in audit.
• Experience with construction and inventory accounting is preferred.
• Advanced proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., Sage Intacct, NetSuite, or Oracle).
• Strong Excel skills, including advanced functions such as pivot tables, macros, and data analysis tools.
• Comprehensive understanding of US GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley.
• Experience with multi-entity, multi-state operations and intercompany accounting.
• Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.

What You Will Do

• Own significant portions of the monthly close process, including preparation, review, and variance analysis.
• Prepare, review, and continuously improve balance sheet reconciliations during the month end close.
• Identify and resolve recurring close issues, timing problems, and process gaps.
• Review journal entries and supporting documentation and initiate corrections or improvements as needed.
• Support revenue recognition across service and construction work, including percentage-of-completion and job-level margin analysis.
• Assist with WIP construction schedules, backlog reporting, and gross margin analysis by job, division, and service line.
• Responsible for inventory accounting and controls, including valuation, reconciliations, fabrication and physical counts.
• Provide day-to-day support and oversight for accounting staff.
• Review work product for accuracy, completeness, and reasonableness.
• Help prioritize workloads during month-end close, audits, and peak periods.
• Step in as needed to unblock progress, solve problems, and/or handle escalations.
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of accounting operations.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting team members.
• Support ERP system enhancements and upgrades, including automation of complex accounting processes.
• Support substantive and 404 audits, including PBC preparation and audit issue resolution.
• Assist with maintaining strong internal controls and consistent accounting policies.
• Help ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies across entities and locations.
• Initial review of most SOX key controls.
