Job Summary

Strategy and Portfolio Summer Intern will be part of a dynamic environment with a high performing team where your work will be valued. You will get hands-on experience in technology, systems, and best practices with Strategy and Portfolio Management during a 12-week summer internship. They will work with a mentor and a group of Strategy and Portfolio Management professionals to gain knowledge in industry operations and exposure to Murphy’s domestic and international operations. The Intern(s) will have the opportunity to interact with other interns and Murphy professionals working on a variety of projects to learn about many aspects of the Strategy and Portfolio Management-related activities within oil and gas.

As a Strategy and Portfolio Management intern, you will be expected to demonstrate excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, along with strong communication and interpersonal abilities. Professionalism and respect for others are essential, and you should consistently strive to do the right thing. A strong work ethic and outstanding organizational skills are required, as well as the ability to deliver results both independently and as part of a team. Interns are encouraged to maintain a continual improvement mindset and embrace the use and advancement of technology throughout their internship experience.

The current Strategy and Portfolio Management summer internship position will get exposure working with various discipline under the Strategy organization located in Murphy Oil Corporation’s office in Houston, Texas.

Responsibilities

Market Intelligence: includes peer analytics and benchmarking, macro environment and market/industry analysis, utilize third-party research and data platforms, including Strategic Analytics products

Strategy and Portfolio: economic evaluation and DCF analysis, financial statement modelling, forecasting and analysis, planning and portfolio scenario analyses, various what-if strategic analyses

Qualifications/Requirements

• Must be enrolled in a curriculum leading to a Baccalaureate degree or higher in Finance or Economics and have two (2) years or less from graduation date
• Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university program for the duration of the 2026 internship
• Minimum twelve (12) continuous weeks’ availability for internship
• Candidates for this U.S. position must be a U.S. citizen or national, or an alien admitted as permanent resident, refugee or asylee. Individuals with temporary visas such as A, B, C, D, E, F (F1-Academic Student), G, H (H1-B), I, J, L, M (M1-Vocational Student), NATO, O, P, Q, R or TN or who need sponsorship for work authorization in the United States now or in the future, are not eligible for hire.
• Familiar with Microsoft or Google products such as Excel spreadsheets

The individual is required to follow all applicable safety precautions. Work is performed almost entirely in a controlled (i.e., inside) environment and does not typically subject the incumbent to any hazardous/extreme elements; some positions may require regularly moving or transporting items weighing up to 25 lbs. around the office for various needs. The successful candidate must be able to complete all essential physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
